2009           ALEXANDRIA LIGHT

A solo installation referencing the social and political environment of Alexandria, Egypt.

Alexandria was once the centre of knowledge for the world. At this critical moment in its history, the challenges of subsistence in present day Alexandria are signalled through the filter of the city's historically significant structures: the Lighthouse, the Library, the Museum.

Elements include free standing and wall mounted objects, a museum of artefacts and a bookwork.

A related, open-ended bookwork project is sited in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (the new library of Alexandria) where Rose Frain was resident artist in 2008.
